Uluwatu Cemongkak
Jl. Pantai Cemongkak No. A, Pecatu, South KutaBadung Regency, Bali 80361
Our first home, a short walk from the Bingin cliff path, and the original Day chair.
Full lift, and an honest answer first
Our full bleach: the whole head taken light, rather than lightness added to it in pieces. Allow about three hours at either Uluwatu salon or in Ubud, and send us a photo before you book so we can tell you what is actually reachable.
Bleach lifts the pigment out of the hair rather than laying color over it, which is why it is the most demanding thing we do and the service we are slowest to promise. Once the hair is at the level we are aiming for, it is toned, because lifted hair on its own is rarely the shade anyone wants. The tone is chosen against your skin, not off a chart. Bleach and tone is one service here, not two bookings.
How light we can go in one sitting depends on your starting level, your hair condition and what has been on it before. Box dye, henna and a previous bleach all change the answer, sometimes completely. Where a single session would cost you more hair than it is worth, we will say so and stage it across two instead. We would rather tell you honestly up front than halfway through.
Lifted hair is porous, and porous hair drinks in everything the island offers: pool minerals, salt, sun and hard water. That is what turns a fresh blonde brassy or khaki within a fortnight. Every basin here runs advanced filtered water, our products are sulfate-free and paraben-free, and Olaplex can be added to rebuild bonds while we lift.
Rinse with fresh water before and after you swim, because hair that is already saturated absorbs far less pool water. Use sulfate-free shampoo and wash as cool as you can stand. A Mermaid Gloss Keratin holds the tone and cuts brassiness for far longer if you are in the water most days, and if the blonde has already turned green, our Green Hair Removal lifts the deposit back out.
It depends on your length, your starting level and whether it is one session or two, which is exactly why we quote on WhatsApp instead of printing a figure. Send a daylight photo and tell us the length and the history, and we will give you a real number and a realistic plan before you commit.
Book on WhatsApp
Every day, 08:00 to 20:00. Each salon has its own WhatsApp, so you're talking to the room you're walking into.
Our first home, a short walk from the Bingin cliff path, and the original Day chair.
On the main Labuansait strip, minutes from Padang Padang, our largest studio.
Our newest room, brought north to the rice terraces and the quiet of Peliatan.
Allow about three hours. Hair above 60 cm takes longer, so tell us the length when you message and we will hold the right amount of chair time.
Sometimes, and sometimes not. It depends on your starting level, your hair condition and what has been on it before. If one session would take too much out of the hair, we will stage it across two rather than push it and hand you back something that snaps.
Bleach changes the structure of the hair, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. What we can do is control it: choose the right strength, watch it, add Olaplex to rebuild bonds while we work, and stop where we said we would stop.
Tell us before you book. Both react unpredictably with lightener and henna in particular can rule the service out entirely. Send a daylight photo on WhatsApp and we will assess it first.
Brassiness is warm pigment showing through as the tone fades, sped up by sun and hard water. Green is a mineral deposit from pool water settling into porous hair. Both are normal in Bali and both are fixable: a gloss for the first, our Green Hair Removal for the second.
A repair treatment keeps the condition up, and a Mermaid Gloss Keratin holds the tone between appointments.
Bleach opens the cuticle and dissolves the pigment inside the fibre, and it cannot do that without also loosening the structure holding the strand together. That is why bleached hair feels more porous, dries faster and takes tone unevenly. It is also why we build the appointment around how much the hair can take rather than around the photo, and why an Olaplex Treatment sits alongside it.
