Why is my hair turning green?
For blonde and lightened hair, swimming pools, minerals, salt water and sunshine can all leave unwanted tones behind. It is something we see often in Bali, and one of our favourite problems to solve, at both Uluwatu salons and in Ubud.
It is not chlorine on its own. Pool water carries dissolved copper and other minerals, and lightened hair is porous enough to hold onto them. Add hard tap water, salt water and strong sun and the tone drifts green or khaki. The hair is not damaged in the way people assume. It is holding something it needs help letting go of.
Purple shampoo corrects yellow, not green, so it usually makes the tone muddier rather than cleaner. Tomato ketchup and lemon juice are the two other things people try before they call us, and neither lifts a mineral deposit out of porous hair. What green needs is removal, not toning over, and doing it without stripping the blonde underneath is the part that takes a salon.
We treat it in two parts. Green Hair Removal lifts the mineral deposit out of the hair without stripping your blonde with it. Day Hair Repair then puts back the hydration the process and the pool have both taken, so you leave with brightness and softness rather than clean but brittle hair. The combination is what restores your blonde at its best.
It is not a booked-out, come-back-next-week service. Message us with a daylight photo of the hair, and in most cases we can tell you what it needs and fit you in the same day, which matters when you have four days left of a holiday and a photo you would rather not be in. Timing is confirmed on WhatsApp once we have seen the color.
Rinse with fresh water before and after you swim, because hair that is already saturated absorbs far less pool water. Every wash at Day runs advanced filtered water, which is why our blondes hold their tone between visits. If you are swimming most days, a Mermaid Gloss Keratin keeps brassiness and green at bay for far longer.
Book on WhatsApp
Every day, 08:00 to 20:00. Each salon has its own WhatsApp, so you're talking to the room you're walking into.

On the main Labuansait strip, minutes from Padang Padang, our largest studio.
Our newest room, brought north to the rice terraces and the quiet of Peliatan.
By lifting the mineral deposit out rather than toning over it. Green comes from copper and other minerals in pool water settling into porous, lightened hair, so the fix is a removal treatment that targets the deposit and leaves your blonde where it is.
No. That's the point of doing it properly. The treatment targets the mineral deposit rather than your color. Send us a photo in daylight on WhatsApp first and we'll tell you what your hair actually needs.

Usually. Message us a daylight photo and we'll tell you what it needs and when we can fit you in. Most guests who message in the morning are sorted that day.
We recommend it. Removal is a lifting process, and lightened hair that has been in a pool is already dehydrated. Day Hair Repair puts the moisture back so the result reads shiny rather than squeaky.
Rinse your hair with fresh water before you get in the pool, rinse again afterwards, and wash with a sulfate-free shampoo. If you're in the water most days, ask us about Mermaid Gloss Keratin.
